About Us

City Street Outreach which started as The Toronto Blanket Ministry in November 2010 was founded by a group of friends mostly from the Scarborough area, with an expanded mission to help people in need mainly in the GTA, and secondarily to the less fortunate globally.

The concept of the Toronto Blanket Ministry began with a recurring dream that Alexander Smirnis kept receiving from the summer months of 2010 through to November, of being escorted through abandoned buildings with the focus on closed door rooms that were full of stacked blankets. The end of the dreams comes on a fateful November morning after a lucid dream of the same. That morning perplexed with its clarity. He walked down the stairs in deep contemplation and saw the snow pouring down hard, winds buffering the windows and realized the temperature had plummeted. He believes God was saying "go help my children"; and he responded.

Considering all the logistics. It was a Monday, Alex began assembling blankets, sheets, a sleeping bag and ventured to our city's core. This became a weekly journey and eventually others felt led to get involved. Now many groups contribute, along with neighbours, friends and family to preserve life and increase the care for the less fortunate; loving the orphans and widows of our streets, and the less fortunate in need within TCH communities.

As of April 20th, every Thursday night a team of volunteers will provide prayer, food, water, blankets, clothing, and other daily neccesities beginning at City Hall 6:00 - 6:30pm. Then patrol the downtown core seeking homeless friends and afterwards visit several TCH communities.
